Vaginal Mesh Lawsuits in Multidistrict Litigation

A number of patients who have experienced problems with vaginal mesh have been filing lawsuits against the manufacturers of the mesh. Seven of these lawsuits, filed in Minnesota, have been consolidated into one case. This will help the litigation process become smoother and quicker for plaintiffs and defendants alike by consolidating the pretrial processes in similar cases to make the legal process move more quickly. Each of the vaginal mesh lawsuits in the consolidated case deals with vaginal mesh side effects based on the possibility of failure associated with transvaginal mesh cases.

A vaginal mesh lawyer argued on behalf of the plaintiffs that it would be beneficial to combine the cases so that they could all be seen by one judge. This would help to establish the fact that vaginal mesh complications are not just focused on one person, but are a more common problem deserving of more attention. Although there are already a number of vaginal mesh lawsuits working their way through courts today, legal experts believe that many more will be filed in the future.
More cases might eventually join in with the seven that have already been consolidated. One of the benefits of consolidating cases in this way is that it eliminates the possibility of inconsistent results in terms of ruling. The lawsuits can be consolidated because they are based on similar facts and make similar claims against American Medical Systems, Inc., the company responsible for the manufacture of the transvaginal mesh devices.
Transvaginal mesh is used in patients with vaginal prolapse or stress urinary incontinence. The mesh is placed in the vagina to help the body regain its natural shape. Some patients have been experiencing side effects that can include infections, pain, or other complications and a number of patients believe that their only way of regaining money lost on medical bills and other financial consequences of suffering severe side effects. More than 70 lawsuits have been filed nationwide in regards to vaginal mesh complications.
One of the allegations often cited in vaginal mesh lawsuits is that the manufacturer of the device might be negligent in manufacturing and testing of the device. Side effects like infection, vaginal scarring, neuromuscular problems, and associated emotional distress have all been cited in vaginal mesh lawsuits.
